Vice Chancellors from universities across Punjab gathered at the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) for an interactive hybrid session on the restructuring of higher education in Pakistan.

The discussion brought together prominent educationists, policymakers, and academic leaders to deliberate on challenges and opportunities facing the country’s higher education sector. Key speakers included Dr. Ishrat Husain, former Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan; Dr. Nadeem ul Haque, former Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission; Dr. Javed R. Laghari, former Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC); Dr. Sohail Hussain Naqvi, Chief Executive Officer of Knowledge Streams; and Dr. Muhammad Iqrar Khan, Chairman of PHEC.

The speakers emphasized the need for institutional reforms, improved governance, higher academic quality, and stronger alignment between higher education and national development priorities.

The session was organized as a follow-up to a recent article by Dr. Ishrat Husain published in Dawn, which sparked renewed debate on the future direction of Pakistan’s higher education system.

Participants described the event as a timely and constructive forum, highlighting the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders to strengthen universities and improve educational outcomes nationwide.
