Singapore's Vision for AI Education Across ASEAN

Speaking at the ASEAN Education Ministers' Meeting, Singapore unveiled the ASEAN Work Plan on Education (2026–2030), an ambitious roadmap to prepare more than 680 million people across Southeast Asia for a rapidly evolving world.

The message was simple yet profound: schools cannot afford to wait until AI transforms society before changing how students learn. Instead, education systems must evolve now.

AI Is More Than Learning to Use Chatbots

Many people assume AI education means teaching students to use tools like ChatGPT or image generators.

Singapore's approach goes much deeper.

Students must learn how AI works, where it succeeds and where it fails, and how to use it responsibly. They need to recognize misinformation, understand algorithmic bias, protect privacy, and make ethical decisions when working alongside intelligent machines.
