Pakistan Launches Digital Life Skills Pilot for Fourth Graders in Islamabad

Pakistan has taken another step toward modernizing classroom education by launching a pilot of the Digital Life Skills-Based Education (LSBE) Learning Management System (LMS) for Grade 4 students across Islamabad. The three-month initiative, led by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training's National Curriculum Council Wing (NCCW) in partnership with UNFPA Pakistan and ACT International, will be implemented in 22 public and private schools.

The pilot was inaugurated at Islamabad College for Boys, G-6/3, where Federal Secretary for Education Nadeem Mahbub underscored the government's commitment to equipping children with the competencies needed for the 21st century. He emphasized that quality education must extend beyond academic achievement to foster critical thinking, effective communication, sound decision-making, problem-solving, and responsible citizenship.

The digital curriculum, designed to be age-appropriate and gender-sensitive, combines interactive learning tools with modern teaching resources to create a more engaging classroom experience. The pilot includes 8 schools under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) and 14 institutions affiliated with PEIRA, including JICA-supported schools and special education programs.

During the three-month implementation, educators and policymakers will assess the platform's usability, learning outcomes, and overall effectiveness. A comprehensive evaluation report will inform decisions to refine the program and expand it to additional grades and regions.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Gulnara Kadyrkulova, Deputy Representative of UNFPA Pakistan, described life skills education as a cornerstone for empowering young learners to make informed decisions, lead healthy and dignified lives, and become responsible citizens. She noted that integrating the curriculum into a digital learning platform marks a significant step toward equitable, accessible, and future-ready education.

Developed through a collaboration among the Ministry's National Curriculum Council Wing, UNFPA Pakistan, and ACT International, the initiative reflects Pakistan's growing focus on using digital innovation to strengthen foundational education and prepare students for an increasingly complex world.
