The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) School of Education (SOE) has embarked on a pioneering collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFE&PT) for the training of teachers in the Federal Directorate of Education.
Secretary MoFE&PT Mr. Mohiyuddin A Wani welcomed this pioneering initiative, emphasizing its potential to not only address Pakistan's impending teacher shortage but also to revolutionize the education sector. He expressed his aspirations for the program's expansion across all provinces in Pakistan, envisioning a nationwide impact on teacher education and development that could transform how we educate our future generations.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice Chancellor of the National Skills University Islamabad, recognizes this initiative as a timely step in the right direction and aims to establish a cutting-edge digital teacher certification program.
Through this partnership, current and aspiring teachers will gain access to LUMS-approved digital certification programs delivered entirely online. These programs will feature world-class courses and assessments developed in collaboration with LUMS SOE, offering educators an innovative pathway to enhance their teaching skills. Moreover, teachers can access animated educational content and evaluations to optimize student learning outcomes.
Faculty and staff from LUMS SOE will oversee and support the entire certification process, ensuring a rigorous and comprehensive educational experience. To facilitate widespread access and utilization of this initiative, LUMS and the private partner Taleemabad, known for their expertise in best teaching-learning practices, will establish the National Institute of Excellence in Teacher Education (NIETE), a national digital platform hosting all program materials.
Notably, this transformative program is designed with a comprehensive support system at its core. Teachers' progress and effectiveness in the classroom will be closely monitored, with advancements in certification levels contingent upon improved teaching quality and student outcomes. A dedicated team of 55 teacher coaches has been recruited from a centralized mission control center to bolster this endeavor, providing round-the-clock support to teachers and students across the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) district, ensuring that no one is left behind in this journey of educational transformation.
The collaboration between LUMS SOE and MoFEPT signifies a significant stride towards modernizing teacher training methods and fostering educational excellence across Pakistan. With a strong focus on digital innovation and pedagogical advancement, this initiative holds promise for shaping a new era of teaching and learning in the country.
