The University of Southern Punjab (USP), Multan, Pakistan, welcomed its newly admitted students for the Fall 2026 academic session with an energetic, festive, informative, and inspiring Orientation Ceremony, transforming the start of the new academic year into a celebration of ambition, belonging, and possibility.
The campus came alive as new students, their parents and families, faculty members, deans, and senior university officials gathered to mark what was described as the start of a transformative chapter in the incoming students' lives. The orientation offered not only an introduction to university life but also a powerful message that higher education is about far more than earning a degree; it is about discovering one's potential, developing character, and preparing to contribute meaningfully to society.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Rector of the University of Southern Punjab, welcomed the new students on behalf of the entire USP family.
“Today is not merely an educational ceremony; it is the beginning of a journey of new dreams, new hopes and new achievements,” the Rector said, welcoming students to what he called “a beautiful abode of knowledge” and “the land of your dreams.”
He emphasized that with their admission to USP, the students had become part of a larger university family.
“From today, you are not merely students at this university; you are members of the USP family. This is your campus, this is your home, and this is the first destination of your dreams,” he said.
Prof. Mukhtar urged students to view their university years as an opportunity to develop intellectually, professionally, and personally. He stressed that students had come to USP not simply to obtain a degree but to build their personalities, discover their abilities, transform their dreams into reality, and lay the foundation for their future.
The Rector highlighted hard work, character, courage, and perseverance as the essential ingredients of lasting success. Encouraging students not to fear failure, he urged them to rise again after each setback and to remain determined when confronted with difficult circumstances.
Quoting the celebrated philosophy of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, he reminded the younger generation of the importance of developing self-belief and ambition:
خودی کو کر بلند اتنا کہ ہر تقدیر سے پہلے
خدا بندے سے خود پوچھے، بتا تیری رضا کیا ہے
He further invoked Iqbal's vision of limitless possibilities, reminding students:
ستاروں سے آگے جہاں اور بھی ہیں
ابھی عشق کے امتحاں اور بھی ہیں
The Rector said the world was full of opportunities for young people and encouraged students to dream boldly, work consistently, and create their own paths to success. He expressed hope that when students eventually graduate from USP, they will carry much more than academic qualifications.
“I want that when you graduate from this university after a few years, you should have not only a degree in your hands, but also knowledge, character, confidence, and a strong desire to serve your country,” he said.
The Fall 2026 Orientation drew enthusiastic participation from students across the university's academic departments. Senior students and faculty members established departmental stalls, creating an interactive environment where newly admitted students could learn about their respective disciplines, academic opportunities, student activities, and university life.
The orientation also brought together families who had accompanied their sons and daughters to celebrate their admission to the university. Deans, directors, and senior officials personally welcomed the newly admitted students and their parents, reinforcing the university's commitment to a supportive and inclusive academic environment.
Director General Mr. Saqib Nazir Ahmad and Director of Finance Mr. Yasir Nazir attended the event and thanked the faculty, staff, senior students, and all who contributed to the successful organization of the orientation. They acknowledged the collective efforts that transformed the occasion into a memorable welcome for incoming students. The presence of university leadership, faculty, and administrative officials reflected the importance attached to the first interaction between the institution and its newest members.
Throughout the ceremony, the central message remained clear: the university experience should be measured not merely by academic credentials, but by the person a student becomes.
Director General Mr. Saqib Nazir Ahmad reminded students that their future success would ultimately depend on the quality of their effort and the strength of their character. “Your today is the foundation of your tomorrow. Your hard work is your identity, and your character is your true success,” he said.
He urged students to make full use of the opportunities available at USP, engage with their teachers, participate in university activities, embrace challenges, and develop the confidence to pursue ambitious goals.
Concluding his address, the Director General offered an uplifting message to the new generation:
“This is your time. This is your journey. This is your flight. The flight is yours, and the sky is waiting for you.”
The Fall 2026 Orientation thus ended not simply as a formal welcome but as a symbolic launch of a new generation of USP students, young people beginning their university journey with dreams to pursue, abilities to discover, and a future to build.
