The National Skills University Islamabad (NSU) is gearing up to participate in the upcoming Girls Sports Carnival. This event promises to be more than just a showcase of athletic talent. Organized by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, this three-day event will take place from October 18 to 20, 2024, at the Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad.

At the core of NSU's involvement is the unwavering commitment to nurture future generations of skilled, educated, and confident women. Jointly led by Ms. Anita Bibi, Lecturer Medical Laboratory Technology and Ms. Spogmai Shahab, Assistant Director, Quality Enhancement a team of ten female students, faculty, and staff will represent the university at this event. They will not only showcase NSU's diverse academic and vocational programs but also serve as a shining example of the university's steadfast commitment to empowering women.

Under the leadership of its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, NSU has placed gender equality at the forefront of its mission. In his remarks about the upcoming carnival, Dr. Mukhtar expressed his admiration for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training's efforts. He recognized the event as a transformative step toward women's empowerment in Pakistan, one that holds the potential to reshape the social landscape by encouraging young women to explore new avenues, including sports.

This carnival, with its emphasis on sports, skill-building, and education, clearly reflects the initiatives introduced under the dynamic leadership of Federal Minister Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. His vision for a more inclusive education system that supports and uplifts girls is gradually taking root, which is evident in events like this. The involvement of dedicated figures like Ms. Farah Naz Akbar, the Ministry's Parliamentary Secretary, who views education as an "honor" rather than a burden, further exemplifies the changing tides in the discourse around girls' education. Drawing from religious teachings, she has emphasized the importance of acquiring knowledge, regardless of the hurdles, highlighting that pursuing education is a universal right.

However, the driving force behind this particular carnival is the capable leadership of Mr. Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training. Mr. Wani has a track record of orchestrating impactful events. His efforts in promoting girls' sports in Pakistan are not new, as he spearheaded similar carnivals in Gilgit-Baltistan during his tenure as Chief Secretary. His vision for empowering girls through extracurricular activities, particularly sports resonates deeply in a country where women's access to such opportunities remains uneven.

In Pakistan, sports remain a field where gender disparities are often pronounced. Events like the Girls Sports Carnival provide young women with a platform to demonstrate their athletic abilities and challenge outdated cultural perceptions that may hold them back. Encouraging young girls to participate in sports opens doors to greater self-confidence, teamwork, and leadership, qualities that transcend the playing field and contribute to personal and professional growth.

NSU's presence at the carnival manifests the institution's broader role in shaping the future of women in Pakistan. As a technology university committed to skills development, NSU understands that education is not limited to the classroom. Through participation in extracurricular activities like sports, students gain invaluable life skills that prepare them for the challenges of the modern world.

Prof. Mukhtar firmly believes that as NSU and several other collaborating organizations champion these causes, they are paving the way for a future where every girl in Pakistan can dream, achieve, and excel, whether on the sports field, in the classroom, or life.
