136/25 Korea-Pakistan Tech Collaboration Gains Momentum at National Skills University Islamabad

To strengthen Pakistan's technical and vocational education landscape, a high-profile Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held at the National Skills University Islamabad (NSU), presided over by Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. The event marks a significant chapter in Pakistan's pursuit of technology-integrated skills development, fostering international collaboration in vocational and professional training.

In addition to senior faculty members and administrative staff from the University, a four-member delegation from Tongwon University, Republic of Korea, visited NSU to explore potential academic and training partnerships in various technology domains. The Korean delegation emphasized the importance of Korean language proficiency as a prerequisite for education in Korea, underscoring that Pakistani students who meet this requirement could benefit from Korea's 'earn and learn' model. This model, which combines vocational training with work opportunities, has garnered success and popularity in several countries, providing students with practical experience and a source of income while they study.

In his address, Federal Minister Dr. Siddiqui expressed appreciation for the Korean delegation's interest in Pakistan and welcomed further engagements in skills development. "The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training is fully committed to advancing technology-oriented training, especially in fields aligned with the fourth industrial revolution," he said. "We recognize the role of international partnerships in helping Pakistan's youth tap into global job markets while acquiring world-class competencies."

The Minister also reaffirmed the government's commitment to enhancing cooperation with institutions such as NAVTTC (National Vocational and Technical Training Commission) and other development partners. These institutions play a crucial role in the development and implementation of vocational training programs, and their collaboration with NSU and Tongwon University will further strengthen the vocational education landscape in Pakistan. His presence at the ceremony, in the capacity of Pro-Chancellor of NSU, was hailed as a historic moment by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice Chancellor of NSU.

"This is a defining occasion for NSU," said Prof. Mukhtar. "The Pro-Chancellor himself presiding over today's session reflects the government's genuine interest in uplifting the technical and vocational training sector in Pakistan."

Prof. Mukhtar also highlighted the university's ongoing progress, particularly the growing footprint of NSU through its sub-campus in Muridke, which aims to cater to the underserved youth of Punjab by offering industry-relevant certifications and degrees.

Prof. Mukhtar also praised the Federal Minister's initiative of establishing the eagerly awaited National Skills University Islamabad Campus in Karachi.

The collaboration with Tongwon University could serve as a template for how transnational educational partnerships can help reshape Pakistan's skills education infrastructure. Korea's longstanding expertise in smart manufacturing, automation, electronics, and renewable energy technologies may prove vital in preparing Pakistani youth for high-demand global sectors.

Moreover, the introduction of Korean language proficiency programs tied to opportunities abroad represents an innovative approach to labor mobility and global employability. If implemented systematically, it could significantly diversify Pakistan's expatriate workforce, which currently relies heavily on the Middle East for employment. This diversification could not only provide more opportunities for Pakistani workers but also strengthen Pakistan's ties with other regions, contributing to the country's global presence and influence.

The Korean delegation also expressed their readiness to establish six Korean language centers under the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training. This initiative holds the promise of enhancing the global employability of Pakistani students, opening up new avenues for their career growth and contributing to the diversification of Pakistan's expatriate workforce.

Since its inception, NSU has emerged as Pakistan's first public sector skills university, offering both degree and skills programs in fields such as mechatronics, construction technology, and medical laboratory sciences. With the launch of the Muridke campus and increased engagement from international partners, NSU is positioning itself as a hub for future-ready education.

The university's focus aligns with Pakistan Vision 2025, which emphasizes human capital development, innovation, and entrepreneurship. By merging traditional education with hands-on training and global exposure, NSU is crafting a blueprint for other institutions across the country.

The Pro-Chancellor of the National Skills University Islamabad, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, in his concluding remarks, emphasized that the government sees skills education not merely as an academic endeavor but as a national economic strategy. He assured continued ministry support for institutions like NSU, especially in expanding global pathways for Pakistani youth.

کوریا - پاکستان تیکنیکی تعاون میں پیش رفت: نیشنل سکلز یونیورسٹی اسلام آباد میں تاریخی معاہدہ

پاکستان میں ہنرمندی اور پیشہ ورانہ تعلیم کو فروغ دینے کے لیے نیشنل سکلز یونیورسٹی اسلام آباد میں  تعاون کی یادداشتِ پر دستخط کی تقریب منعقد ہوئی، جس کی صدارت وفاقی وزیر برائے تعلیم و پیشہ ورانہ تربیت ڈاکٹر خالد مقبول صدیقی نے کی۔ یہ تقریب پاکستان میں ٹیکنالوجی سے ہم آہنگ ہنر مندی کے فروغ اور بین الاقوامی تعاون کے ایک نئے باب کا آغاز ہے۔

تقریب میں یونیورسٹی کے سینئر اساتذہ اور انتظامیہ کے علاوہ جمہوریہ کوریا کی ٹونگ وون یونیورسٹی کے چار رکنی وفد نے شرکت کی، جنہوں نے ٹیکنالوجی کے مختلف شعبوں میں تربیتی اور تعلیمی اشتراک کے امکانات کا جائزہ لیا۔ کورین وفد نے اس بات پر زور دیا کہ کورین زبان کی مہارت، کوریا میں تعلیم حاصل کرنے کے لیے لازمی ہے۔ پاکستانی طلبا جو اس شرط کو پورا کریں گے، وہ کوریا کے ’کماؤ اور سیکھو‘ ماڈل سے مستفید ہو سکتے ہیں، جو تعلیم کے ساتھ عملی تجربہ اور آمدن کا ذریعہ فراہم کرتا ہے۔

ڈاکٹر خالد مقبول صدیقی نے اپنے خطاب میں کورین وفد کا خیرمقدم کیا اور ہنر مندی کے شعبے میں مزید تعاون پر زور دیا۔ انہوں نے کہا:

’’وفاقی وزارت تعلیم و پیشہ ورانہ تربیت، ٹیکنالوجی پر مبنی تربیت کے فروغ کے لیے پرعزم ہے، خاص طور پر ان شعبہ جات میں جو چوتھے صنعتی انقلاب سے ہم آہنگ ہوں۔ بین الاقوامی اشتراک سے پاکستانی نوجوانوں کو عالمی روزگار کے مواقع حاصل ہوں گے اور وہ عالمی معیار کی مہارتیں سیکھ سکیں گے۔‘‘

انہوں نے نیووٹیک اور دیگر ترقیاتی شراکت داروں کے ساتھ تعاون جاری رکھنے کا بھی اعادہ کیا۔ اس موقع پر وائس چانسلر این ایس یو، پروفیسر ڈاکٹر محمد مختار نے کہا:

’’آج  کا  دن  نیشنل  سکلز  یونیورسٹی  اسلام  آباد کی تاریخ میں سنگ میل ہے کہ پرو چانسلر خود اس اہم اجلاس کی صدارت فرما رہے ہیں، جو حکومت کی ہنر مندی کے شعبے میں سنجیدگی کو ظاہر کرتا ہے۔‘‘

ڈاکٹر مختار نے این ایس یو کی ترقی، خصوصاً مریدکے کیمپس کے قیام کو اجاگر کیا، جس کا مقصد پنجاب کے محروم نوجوانوں کو صنعت سے جڑی ڈگریاں اور سرٹیفکیٹس فراہم کرنا ہے۔ انہوں نے کراچی میں این ایس یو کیمپس کے قیام کے حکومتی اقدام کو بھی سراہا۔

ٹونگ وون یونیورسٹی کے ساتھ یہ تعاون مستقبل میں ایسی بین الاقوامی شراکت داریوں کے لیے ایک مثال بن سکتا ہے، جن کے ذریعے پاکستان میں ہنر کی تعلیم کو عالمی معیار پر لایا جا سکے۔ کوریا کی سمارٹ مینوفیکچرنگ، آٹومیشن، الیکٹرانکس اور قابلِ تجدید توانائی کے شعبوں میں مہارت پاکستانی نوجوانوں کے لیے نئے مواقع پیدا کرے گی۔

علاوہ ازیں، کورین زبان کی تربیت اور بیرونِ ملک روزگار سے منسلک پروگرامز پاکستان کے ہنر مند افراد کے لیے ایک نیا راستہ کھول سکتے ہیں، جو اب تک زیادہ تر مشرقِ وسطیٰ پر انحصار کرتے آئے ہیں۔ یہ اقدام پاکستانی افرادی قوت کی عالمی سطح پر موجودگی میں تنوع اور وسعت پیدا کرے گا۔

وفد نے وفاقی وزارت کے تعاون سے پاکستان میں چھ کورین لینگویج سینٹرز قائم کرنے کی خواہش کا اظہار بھی کیا، جو نوجوانوں کی عالمی منڈی میں کامیابی کی راہ ہموار کریں گے۔

نیشنل سکلز یونیورسٹی پاکستان کی پہلی پبلک سیکٹر اسکلز یونیورسٹی ہے، جو میکاٹرونکس، تعمیراتی ٹیکنالوجی، اور میڈیکل لیب سائنسز سمیت مختلف شعبوں میں ڈگری اور ہنر کی تعلیم فراہم کر رہی ہے۔ مریدکے کیمپس اور عالمی شراکت داریوں کے ذریعے این ایس یو مستقبل کا تعلیمی مرکز بنتی جا رہی ہے۔

تقریب کے اختتام پر پرو چانسلر ڈاکٹر خالد مقبول صدیقی نے اس عزم کا اعادہ کیا کہ حکومت ہنر کی تعلیم کو محض تعلیمی نہیں بلکہ اقتصادی حکمتِ عملی سمجھتی ہے، اور ایسے اداروں کو مکمل سپورٹ فراہم کرے گی جو پاکستان کے نوجوانوں کے لیے عالمی مواقع تلاش کر رہے ہیں۔
