The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), in a significant collaboration with the Civil Services Academy, has successfully concluded an intensive leadership and management program for 23 newly appointed vice chancellors of public sector universities.

The five-day training, held from August 25 to 29 at the academy’s Walton campus in Lahore, was meticulously designed to equip the university heads with practical skills, ensuring they are well-prepared to strengthen university governance and foster long-term strategic planning. Sessions covered institutional governance, financial management, and global models of higher education leadership.

Officials said the initiative reflects a growing recognition of the need for skilled leadership at Pakistan’s universities. Administrators are tasked with balancing financial pressures, expanding student enrollments, and competing internationally.

“This program underscores our commitment to preparing university leaders for the demands of today’s rapidly changing academic environment,” said the PHEC director of quality assurance and academics, who led the initiative.

The program drew on the expertise of senior academics, administrators, and policy experts, with PHEC crediting the Civil Services Academy and its resource persons for their role in the program’s success.

According to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, such training is timely and will empower leaders to tackle the issue of universities.
