In anticipation of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed every year on 3rd December, YouthForesight, in collaboration with UNICEF and the ILO and with insights from Special Olympics, will host a webinar titled 'Making Skilling Programs and Employment Opportunities More Inclusive for Youth with Disabilities.'
The primary objectives of this webinar are to share up-to-date information on the challenges faced by youth with disabilities in accessing skill learning programs and to identify effective strategies for making these programs more inclusive. Insights gained from this webinar can significantly enhance your work in promoting disability inclusion.
Approximately 16% of the global population, which is around 1.3 billion individuals, live with some form of disability. While detailed data on youth with disabilities is scarce, estimates suggest that around 180 to 220 million young people aged 10-24 suffer from some form of disability, with about 80% living in developing countries. Despite representing over 10% of the global youth population, this group faces significant barriers to finding paid employment, achieving financial independence, and fully participating in society.
Young people with disabilities bring valuable perspectives and solutions, continuously innovating to overcome social stigma, inaccessible environments, and policies that don't accommodate their unique needs.
According to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice Chancellor of the National Skills University Islamabad, Pakistan this webinar is an impressive and praiseworthy effort by YouthForesight. The partnership with UNICEF and the ILO enhances the importance of this event. He urges all Technology and non-technology-oriented institutions to create opportunities for people with disabilities.
